Tuatara add two more ahead of opener

The Auckland Tuatara have signed two more players to their roster as they begin life in the Sal’s NBL with local players Joseph Nunag and Boston Caldwell inking deals this week.

The duo will be suited up for tonight’s season opener against the Taranaki Airs at Eventfinda Stadium and could be called upon by coach Aaron Young.

Both guard Nunag and forward Caldwell have been training with the Tuatara group for the past few weeks and will provide additional cover with import Siler Schneider and talented Kiwi college graduate Dan Fotu not with the club for the start of the campaign.

In addition to that the experienced Nick Barrow and youngster Luka Vea are unavailable for the season opener due to illness and injury respectively.

Nunag played with the Franklin Bulls last season but attended high school on the North Shore with Rangitoto College while Caldwell is a year removed from renowned Auckland basketball school Westlake Boys.

“Both Joseph and Boston have spent a lot of time training with the group and understand our systems,” coach Young said.

“They have been very impressive and have earned their roster spots.

“They will provide cover for this opening weekend but could also be called upon more as the season progresses.”
