Young signs on for two more years

The Auckland Tuatara have locked in the first piece of their assault on the 2023 Sal’s NBL with inaugural coach Aaron Young agreeing to a new two-year deal that will see him remain in charge of the side.

Young guided the Tuatara to the grand final earlier this month in the club’s first season competing in the league. It follows him taking the Auckland Huskies to the playoffs last season in his debut season coaching in the league.

The highly regarded coach was happy to confirm his plans so soon after the 2022 season finished.

“I’m delighted to sort out my coaching future and to be able to stay and carry on what we’ve started with the Tuatara this year,” Young said.

“I feel very at home with the organisation and the group we have here and know we can take more steps forward next season.

“I love the culture we have created here, and I am already putting together plans for next season and beyond.”

Auckland Tuatara GM of Sport and Communication Dale Budge said the decision to re-sign Young was as straight forward as it gets.

“There was never a question of whether we wanted to re-sign Aaron, it was just a case of asking him if he was keen to continue,” Budge said.

“He did an incredible job assembling a roster that challenged for the title and exceeded our expectations by every measure on and off the court.

“Aaron went above and beyond as we began life in the league and he has a massive future in the sport. We are extremely fortunate to be able to have him coach our team for the next two years.”

The Tuatara will now turn their attention to Young’s staff and securing players for the 2023 season.
