Tuatara score big road win over Hawks

The Auckland Tuatara picked up a big 99-88 win over the Hawke’s Bay Hawks at Pettigrew Arena in Napier on Saturday night to remain atop the Sal’s NBL ladder and exact a little bit of revenge.

The Hawks have been the only team to topple the Tuatara so far in 2022 – doing so in Auckland last month – and Aaron Young’s side was determined to return the favour against one of the competition heavyweights.

Powered by a brilliant showing from American import guard Siler Schneider, who scored 20 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and three steals, the Tuatara broke free in the final quarter to win for the fourth time from four appearances on the road this season.

Fellow guard Dontae Russo-Nance was outstanding as well, scoring 21 points with three rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

Chris Johnson was back to his best with 21 points, nine rebounds and a whopping seven blocks while Rob Loe poured in 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists to go with a steal and a block.

Taking a one point lead into the final quarter, the Tuatara opened the gap up to 15 points at one stage before ultimately grabbing an 11-point victory.

The team returns to Auckland for Queen’s Birthday Monday showdown against the Manawatu Jets at Eventfinda Stadium.
