Auckland Grammar product Thomas Whyte has inked a deal to play for his hometown team in the upcoming 2023 Sal’s NBL.
Point guard Whyte graduated from Auckland Grammar in 2017 and went on to attend St Thomas Moore High School in Oakdale before linking with Assumption University in Worcester, Maryland from 2019-22.
Now back in Auckland, Whyte has impressed coach Aaron Young and earned a spot on the Tuatara roster.
“I have been very impressed with Thomas over the past few months and think he can really excel at this level,” Young said.
“I am delighted to give him his first professional contract and I think he will turn some heads this season.”
Whyte represented New Zealand at the 3X3 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina in 2018 as well as the U18 FIBA Asia Cup in the same year.
He joins a star-studded Tuatara roster that includes Tall Blacks Rob Loe and Reuben Te Rangi, Breakers star Cam Gliddon, exciting youngsters Tom Beattie and Charlie Dalton as well as experienced veterans Nick Barrow and Chris McIntosh.
Memberships to all nine home games at Eventfinda Stadium are available now.
The season begins on April 8 with a road game in Nelson against the Giants.
