The Auckland Tuatara have signed talented Tall Blacks small forward Takiula Fahrensohn for the 2022 Sal’s National Basketball League season.
The former Auckland Grammar School product, who is currently playing with the Tall Blacks in their World Cup qualifiers in the Philippines, will return from playing professionally in Germany to link up with the Tuatara in their inaugural season competing in the league.
Fahrenson played with the Auckland Huskies last year and developed a strong relationship with coach Aaron Young, who has signed on as the first ever coach of the Tuatara.
“Taki is a terrific player, and we are delighted to have him,” Young said.
“There were plenty of teams around the league trying to secure his services, but we clicked last year, and I was always confident he would want to come and be part of what we are building with the Tuatara.
“He is a future star and we are delighted to have him with us this season.
The 23-year-old was a member of the Junior Tall Blacks as well as the New Zealand U18 team that beat Australia for the FIBA Oceania title in 2016. He attended college in the United States with the Portland Pilots before playing for the Huskies and more recently Team Ehingen Urspring in Germany.
Fahrensohn joins Tall Blacks teammate Rob Loe, youngster Dontae Russo-Nance, experienced big man Nick Barrow and guard Chris McIntosh on the inaugural Tuatara roster.
More players are set to be announced in the next week.
