Coach’s comment: Unselfish play helping us

By Aaron Young

It was great to be able to pick up an important road win against a Manawatu Jets side that played very well against us and challenged us the whole way.

I feel like the direction we are heading is very positive. The chemistry we are playing with is getting better and better – we really understand our strengths and what each player needs to do.

I think our core managed the game really well and that proved the difference.

Reuben’s [Te Rangi] offense really allowed ourselves to be able to go blow-to-blow with them in the first half, where we weren’t quite where we needed to be defensively.

It was probably our worst defensive half of the season and yet we were still tied up at halftime.

We knew our offense would get us over the line if we could just make some stops and tighten things up and that happened in the third quarter.

Charlie’s [Dalton] performance was fantastic again. He has such a high IQ and his cuts off the ball and his reads are outstanding. He is really developing his all-round game and was great at both ends for us.

I think the hallmark of the way we are playing is how unselfish this team is. We are making that extra pass to create space and we are looking to feed whoever has the hot hand and that is working.

We look forward to welcoming the Jets to our home court this weekend and we hope to have a massive crowd there to cheer us on.
