Talented power forward Dan Fotu is the latest player to join the Auckland Tuatara basketball franchise for their inaugural Sal’s National Basketball League campaign.
The 6’7 Fotu, brother of Tall Black Isaac Fotu, has just finished his final year at college with St Mary’s in the United States and signs his first professional contract with his hometown team.
Fotu grew up on Auckland’s North Shore and attended Rangitoto College before embarking on his successful US college career.
He joins a roster already boasting a stack of local talent and will form one of the best front courts in the Sal’s NBL alongside Sky Sport Breakers big man Rob Loe and veteran centre Nick Barrow.
“Dan is a great guy and someone I have known from a young age,” coach Aaron Young said. “He is the perfect fit for us and will bring an ability to score as well as rebound at both ends of the court.
“He has enjoyed a terrific college career and I think he could have a huge impact on this league.
“We can’t wait for him to join up with us.”
Fotu is likely to miss the first couple of weeks of the 2022 Sal’s NBL but is expected back in mid-late May.
The Tuatara begin their inaugural campaign at home at Eventfinda Stadium against the Taranaki Mountainairs on Saturday April 30.
